About the Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme
The Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme launched on 30th July 2010 and is be a public bicycle sharing scheme for short journeys in and around central London. You can pick up a bicycle, use it as you like, then drop it off, ready for the next person.
How and when can one hire a bike?
Bicycles are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Once the scheme becomes open to the full general public in the next few weeks, a booking or membership will not be required. Simply find an available cycle in a hub, punch in your card details at the kiosk/slot in your membership key on the bike stand and you are good to go!

Who can hire a bicycle?
You must be over 18 to give your card information to hire a bike, but anyone aged 14 and above can ride a bicycle.
Costing:
To hire a cycle you are required to pay an access fee as well as a usage charge.
- First 30 minutes of each journey is free (there must be a 5 minutes gap between each journey)
- Up to 1 hour = £1
- Up to 1.5 hours = £4
- Up to 2 hours = £6.
- Up to 2.5 hours = £10.
- Up to 3 hours = £15.
- Up to 6 hours = £35.
- Up to 24 hours = £50.
